Hello to family and friends:

As you may be aware, I am off to the Olympics on Feb. 9th to volunteer at the freestyle skiing & snowboard events at Cypress Mountain. (yes, I know they are lacking some snow!!)

I am very excited about this opportunity as well as a little nervous as the time approaches to leave! With a great deal of help from a friend, I now have a "blog" where I can share my experiences of the 2010 winter olympics.

The process of becoming a volunteer started 2 years ago when I saw an add on TV inviting people to apply to volunteer. I thought it sounded very exciting so I applyed. I found out this past September that I was accepted.

There are some freebies with volunteering but not too many! We get to keep our uniform, we get a free bus pass & we get a free ticket to the opening ceremonies - dress rehearsal. We are responsible for the rest of our expenses. We are responsible for finding our own accomodations & a neighbor of mine set me up with a young couple she knows who have 2 boys ages 1&4. They have already welcomed me into their home by email & phone calls. (they also have a hot tub which I am pretty excited about!)

I will be gone for 3 weeks. It will be the longest time I have ever been away from the family. Bruce has been very supportive of this endeavour but as the time approaches for me to leave, he is getting a little more nervous about who is going cook, clean, buy food etc. I guess they will figure it out!

  2. Wow, I can't believe you're leaving so soon. Don't forget to pack your long underwear.

  3. Ah HA, I found it!! Now I'm going back through the archives to read all your posts. I only wish I'd known about this during the Olympics!

Hey, what say we apply as volunteers at the London 2012 Olympics? I'm keen if you are.
